Yesterday we reported that a man found living in squalor at Port Newark after stowing away on an Italian freighter may be a terrorist, or he may just really enjoy a slice, based on the lack of evidence found at the scene and the general incoherence of the man in question. But almost-but-not-quite-you're-too-kind Presidential candidate and New York Rep. Peter King is worried. "What I find concerning," King tells The Post, is that "he was in a secure portion of the port, left that facility and then got out of the secure part of the facility and went to a building outside of the secure area." Yes, we must be especially careful of those perambulatory terrorists.
Sure, Homeland Security may have "failed" at Port Newark, but authorities still don't know what Asem Haroon was doing there in the first place. There may be "evidence he'd 'been detained in Columbia fairly recently,'" or he may be researching for a pizza blog. Either way, King should know that we need those pizza tourism dollars now more than ever.
In an interview with Politico concerning how Homeland Security funding should be appropriated, King outlined his "go where the risk is" approach: "We have to focus on the areas that are the prime targets…I don't know the last time Montana was attacked, or North Dakota or South Dakota." Clearly King doesn't remember the Great Ski Bum Standoff of '94. In fact, if he had watched any of those Pace Picante commercials, he'd know that the REAL terrorists are plotting against New York City from the heartland!
