The 2012 baby derby seems to be won by a couple who delivered a 7-pound, 3-ounce, 18.5-inch baby girl at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. The hospital says Rania Ali was born at the stroke of midnight. Also, she is VERY ADORABLE (see picture). But Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn says 5-pound, 8-ounce Emma Sieminska was also the first baby of the New Year (and Emma's pretty cute too)!

The Daily News reports that both births were natural and has fun details. Apparently Rania's mother was in labor for seven days with brother Ryan, but Alia Ali, who started to go into labor on Saturday, said there was a TV in the delivery room, “We saw the ball drop. At 11:59, I was having a contraction. The doctor told me, ‘Push, push, push,’ and she just came out at 12 o’clock.’" The Alis are Pakistani immigrants who live in Throgs Neck.

As for little Emma, she's the first child of Polish immigrants and Greenpoint residents Monika and Mariusz Sieminska. Monika's doctor said while many women were in labor at the hospital, "she was the only one who was fully dilated by 11 p.m., so I thought, ‘Hmm, there might be a possibility.'"
