A 12-year-old boy and a 69-year-old man were killed in a fire that ripped through a Brooklyn building on Monday morning.
Police and fire officials responded to reports of the deadly blaze just before 2 a.m. on Monday. A total of 13 people suffered injuries in the fire, which erupted on the top floor and attic of a five-story building on Linden Boulevard near Flatbush Avenue in Flatbush.
The child and man were both pronounced dead at nearby hospitals. Their names were not released.
Two other residents — an 82-year-old woman and a 30-year-old woman — were hospitalized with injuries from the fire. The 82-year-old woman was listed in critical condition on Monday morning, according to police. Four others experienced minor injuries.
Five firefighters also suffered mostly minor injuries in the fire. One of them was described in "serious but stable" condition by an FDNY spokesperson.
The fire was put out about an hour after firefighters showed up. Its cause is under investigation.
