A 10-year-old boy was fatally struck by a driver while he was waiting for a bus on the sidewalk in Brooklyn today.

A police spokesperson said the incident happened around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday at Ocean Avenue and Avenue L in Midwood. The 10-year-old victim was standing by a bus stop when a driver in a grey Lexus SUV, which had been traveling northbound on Ocean Avenue, veered to the right and mounted the sidewalk at Avenue L.

The child, whose name has not been released, suffered severe trauma to the neck and back. He was taken to New York Community Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

After striking the child, police add that the driver then struck the scaffolding in front of 1673 Ocean Avenue (you can see video below of the crashed car). The driver was taken to Kings County Hospital and is expected to survive.

Sources told Yeshiva World News that investigators are looking into the possibility that the driver may have suffered a seizure while driving, which resulted in the crash.

The NYPD adds that no charges have been filed yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
