You know you are a neighborhood fixture when people celebrate your birthday by tearing their clothes off. Repeatedly. Which is to say, happy birthday Ray Alvarez! Bring out the burlesque dancers!
Yup, yesterday was the 80th birthday of East Village institution/proprietor of Ray's Candy Store Ray Alvarez and, because tradition is tradition, some fine folks arranged to have not one, not two, not three but four burlesque dancers stop by the shop to ring in Ray's eightysomething years. There was music and cake and boas and there were many, many photos taken.
