As the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, you may be looking for something bubbly and uplifting to get you out of the house next weekend.
The people behind Brooklyn SeltzerFest are bringing it back for a second annual run Sunday, March 15, after a successful first run last year — this time in a larger location at Brooklyn’s Industry City.
“ Carbonated water by itself is just two things, right, just water and CO2 combined,” said Brooklyn Seltzer Museum Executive Director Barry Joseph. “But as an iconic object, we bring so much meaning to it.”
SeltzerFest is an offshoot of the Brooklyn Seltzer Museum in Cypress Hills, located in the oldest continuously operating seltzer factory in New York City.
This year’s SeltzerFest will feature samples from the museum’s historic seltzer works alongside national brands like Topo Chico. There will be a people’s choice award for best-tasting seltzer, as well as an egg cream competition, the “National Egg Cream Invitational,” sponsored by Fox's U-Bet Chocolate Syrup — considered the sign of authenticity for the traditional Brooklyn egg cream*.
Last year the Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain in Carroll Gardens took the top prize.
Joseph said aside from traditional egg creams, guests this year will be able to try AriZona Beverages’ Chocolate Egg Cream soda in a can. “ The can itself talks about its history in New York City, its history in Brooklyn, and the importance of that as a soda fountain standard,” Joseph said.
Israeli American rapper Kosha Dillz, comedian Liz Glazer, and TikToker Anna Roisman will give live performances.
Joseph hopes attendees have fun in “unexpected, whimsical ways,” and leave “on a buzz that we hope can carry them to the next SeltzerFest.”
Tickets are $10 for children and $25 for adults and available for purchase online.
