Picture the Homeless

"The rules are not about 'safeguarding public health' and ensuring that essential workers are 'able to maintain social distancing,' but rather are about permanently excluding homeless persons from the subway system."

Roughly a dozen members are attempting to secure the future of an organization that for decades has striven to ask—not tell—homeless people what they need.

"Finally someone is listening, and thank God we have proof showing what has been done to us."

"When you speak up and say it's public space, they ask for your ID. And if you don't have an ID you get locked up."

The initiative is aimed at eradicating street homelessness, but some worry it will lead to more criminalization of homeless people.

"We're essentially squatters here."

The NYPD has reportedly been spreading some good ol' Christmas cheer among the homeless community this year by arresting hordes of subway panhandlers.

"That homeless guy you used to see outside the coffee shop, where did he go?" If he died, the answer is probably a mass grave dug by prisoners for 50 cents an hour.

For the two new shelters on the UWS, the City pays around $3,300 a month per apartment, with two or three people living in each unit.

"Until an independent investigation is completed, Picture the Homeless should continue receiving public funds. They serve a vulnerable population and are addressing crucial issues."
