Law-enforcement sources say the Mexican government is working with officials in New York to hunt down the the man suspected of fatally stabbing a youth soccer coach on W. 14th St. earlier this month.

The suspect in a grisly stabbing near Union Square this weekend boarded a flight to Mexico hours before investigators placed his name on a no-fly list.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters today that the murder of a youth soccer coach near Union Square early Sunday morning may have been been the result of mistaken identity.

"He loved New York and he loved the lifestyle and was working hoping to get a visa so he could stay there full time…We just cannot believe it."

Video reportedly shows 25-year-old Michael Jones walking with the suspect down 14th Street before the two got into a dispute, and the suspect stabbed Jones at least six times in the head, neck, and chest.

An NYPD release describes the suspect as a Hispanic male, age 25 to 30 years old with a "dark ponytail."
