More than 3,000 fully grown trees were uprooted across the five boroughs, the most since Hurricane Sandy, when more than 10,000 trees came crashing down.

Tens of thousands of New Yorkers are still without power, more than 48 hours after Tropical Storm Isaias ravaged trees and power lines throughout the region.

Some communities have been told it will be days before power returns.

With extreme weather events projected to occur more frequently as a result of the climate crisis, some local officials said Isaias underscored the city's lack of progress in resiliency planning.

A man in Queens was killed by a falling tree on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said, as heavy winds from Tropical Storm Isaias continued to pummel New York City.

Powerful wind gusts could reach as high as 75 miles per hour, leading to downed trees and power lines.

"The storm surge is looking at one to two feet as a worst case scenario," said Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Deanne Criswell.

The National Weather Service says there's a chance for tropical storm force winds.
