The heat wave hailstorm – officially known as a supercell storm – triggered a special weather statement from the National Weather Service, warning of 40 mile per hour winds that could knock down trees or unsecured objects.

Wednesday and Thursday are likely to be the steamiest, with highs of 95 degrees both days.

The National Weather Service has a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for New York City and areas north and east through 8 p.m. Monday night.

The hail came down just after 2 p.m. on Saturday in New York City.
