An unidentified woman's right arm and left hand were partially severed after she fell on the tracks and was hit by southbound F train at the Second Ave/Houston St stop earlier today. The incident occurred around 11:30 this morning and suspended all F train service between Essex Street and Continental for nearly an hour.
It's unclear as to whether the woman fell from the platform or jumped, but the Post reports that "early indications point to a suicide attempt." Passengers said they saw her jump as the train pulled in, and one witness said she "looked like she was in shock" and was "totally covered" in blood. She is currently in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital. It's not the first incident of this nature to have occurred along this subway line, which has been described as "the city's most troubled."
