Well, that was a short winter. No snow, but enough numbing cold to make us mumble a series of words that the prudish Times would never dare print.
The high pressure system that brought us the abbreviated winter has moved eastward. The bonechilling northerly breezes have been replaced with milder westerly winds. The forecast for today was for a sunny 37 degrees. The sun has disappeared but the temperature forecast is on target. Mostly sunny tomorrow with a high in the mid-40s. Increasing clouds on Sunday shouldn't impede the warming trend. Expect a high around 50. By Monday we should warm to at least the mid-50s. Sixty degrees is not out of the question if you believe the Weather Service. Tuesday and Wednesday look to be nearly as warm.
You may remember that it was a year ago that we were in the midst of an extraordinary long warm spell. The warm weather culminated in a high of 72 last January 6th. That warm spell was, for Gothamist, one of the top four weather events of 2007. The others being the tornado on August 8th, the April Nor'easter, and the record warm October. Overall, 2007 was slightly warmer than average. The 61.7 inches of precipitation received was 14 inches more than normal, and nearly two feet more than allegedly rainy Seattle.
