Having linfected Stephen Colbert, President Obama and Sarah Palin, Linsanity finally hit Jon Stewart and The Daily Show last night. Stewart ended up having to defend Lin to a bummed out Larry Wilmore, who felt Lin's basketball theatrics were overshadowing Black History Month: “How can it be that in the middle of Black History Month an Asian kid comes in and does this?...Hey, I've got one: you're kil-lin me. This is more painful than a lin-grown toe nail."
Wilmore could only see the negatives: Carmelo Anthony is so depressed, he can't even bring himself to put on a uniform! Sure he's literally hurt, as Stewart pointed out, but Wilmore noted it isn't easy to "have your job outsourced to Asia in front of your face." But then Wilmore got to the heart of what's fueling Lin's amazing play: a 3.1 grade point average at Harvard. "Clearly the basketball is just an attempt to win back the love of his Tiger Mom," Wilmore concluded.
Ultimately, Wilmore was worried that black basketball players might disappear from the league thanks to the rise of Martin Luther Kung Pow. After all, look what happened to the Cleveland Rosenblums and the early Jewish basketball players. Somehow, the whole thing ends up being astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson's fault, as always.
