A kids soccer tournament in Long Island yesterday ended with 13 people visiting the hospital after an inflatable slide went airborne and crashed into a bounce house and castle, both filled with children. “The bouncy house fell on me; then I just got hurt by my nose and my knee,” one little girl told CBS.
Thirteen people were hurt in the incident, which occurred a little after noon, and taken to the hospital, though their injuries were apparently only minor. But that didn't make the whole ordeal any less scary for the folks there: "It was the craziest thing you ever saw," one father told ABC. "The next inflatable that two of my kids were in started bouncing and sliding. I tried to catch it, and it just flattened me."
“I just ran, and by the time I’d gotten there, the other rides were blowing away,” a mother told CBS. “Kids were being knocked over, and there were just kids lying everywhere.”
The rest of the days activities were, understandably, canceled.
According to the National Weather Service winds in the Oceanside area yesterday were about 15 mph, with gusts of 20 mph. It is unclear why the bouncy structures weren't properly secured to the ground, but Nassau County police say they are not conducting a formal investigation into the “unusual incident.”
