The Giants 2010 season moved along like a sine curve, so despite ending with ten wins, the team missed the playoffs because of their own inconsistent play (especially Eli Manning, and his 25 interceptions). Coach Tom Coughlin, who is no Rex Ryan, received a lot of flack by the media and fans for the disappointment. But the Giants decided to retain Coughlin and his fiery personality, and Coughlin let critics of the team and himself know exactly how he feels: "Kiss my ass."
After the Giants meaningless victory over the Redskins on Sunday, Coughlin gave a postgame address to the players which was recorded by cameras for Showtime's "Inside the NFL." And he got a bit riled up, by Coughlin's standards: "From the bottom of my heart and everybody's, we have a 10-and-6 season, a 10-win season in the NFL, okay? They can kiss my ass, okay? They can line up and kiss my ass. It's not an easy thing to do." A player interjected, "Can we quote you on that, Coach?" And Coughlin replied, "You can quote me on a lot more than that. The priest is here or I'd say a few more things." You can see the whole video below.
Coughlin has never been very chummy with reporters; as Capital NY put it, since he became head coach in 2004, "Coughlin’s persona with reporters has gone from grouchy, dour, and unrevealing to… well, at least able to joke about being grouchy, dour, and unrevealing." If Coughlin is starting to feel a bit overshadowed by having to share the New Meadowlands Stadium lights with the hulking personality of Ryan, we can't wait to see what his equivalent to FootGate might be.
