Police are on the lookout for a middle aged robber who pulled off a brazen job at a Washington Heights Gristede's Monday evening. As you can see for yourself in the below surveillance video, the robber, described by cops as a black man between 50 and 60 years old with a gray beard and glasses, is as casual as can be when he walks into the store, seemingly chatting away on his cellphone. And then out comes the gun.
The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. at the Gristedes on Broadway near West 170th Street. The perp walked into the store as cool as a cucumber, seemingly focused on his conversation. But things got illegal once he got to the register and asked for change for a $5. As the cashier handed him some singles, out came the handgun. Gun in hand, the man grabbed what he could out of the register and escaped on foot heading north on Broadway, according to the police.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at (800) 577-TIPS.
