Police say they have found several bags containing body parts on a sidewalk in the Bronx. The Daily News reports that a dog walker spotted "a woman's leg protruding from [a] duffel bag" on Eagle Avenue at 158th Street around 5 a.m. this morning. A witness allegedly told police that the bag was dumped by someone in a silver SUV. CBS is reporting that police found at least four different bags containing body parts, including a hand, a torso, a leg, a foot, and a head. "It was on top of the garbage that we put out," one resident said.
An NYPD release notes that the Medical Examiner is determining the cause of death. The bags were dumped across the street from a playground and a block away from a school.
[UPDATE]DNAinfo is now reporting that police believe the body parts found in the Bronx belong to a woman who has been missing for two days. According to the outlet's police sources, a man visited the 40th Precinct this morning with a photograph of his missing mother who lived near the crime scene.
Police reportedly matched the photograph with the remains in the bags, and the sources said they would question the woman's son and her ex-husband. "She's a good person, she's a good mom," one of the woman's neighbors said.
