A pair of cousins were shot early this morning in Bed-Stuy while reportedly trying to beat the heat. Kyle Decoteau, 22, was killed, while his cousin Tony Green, 24, was struck in the back and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The two men were sitting on the steps outside their home in Bed-Stuy near Atlantic Avenue around 3:40 a.m. this morning when a group of men approached them and an argument broke out. "We noticed some guys creeping on the side of [Atlantic Ave]. I heard four [shots]. It was boom-boom-boom-boom," said cousin Toni Decoteau. The assailants fled the scene, and no arrests have been made yet. Police say Green had two prior arrests for robbery, and Decoteau, who had recently moved to the city from North Carolina, had been arrested once for assault and once for marijuana possession.

Decoteau's girlfriend said he was a dog lover who had raised four pit bulls named Precious, Midnight, Sasha and Cream: "He loved dogs. They can already tell that he's gone...His last words to me were, 'Bring Cream to me.'"
