Two men were stabbed — one fatally — at a busy Brooklyn park on Saturday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
Police said the incident happened just before 2 p.m. at Dyker Beach Park in Dyker Heights, which is home to a number of baseball and soccer fields, handball and basketball courts, playgrounds and a golf course.
Officials said a 30-year-old man and a 21-year-old man were both stabbed several times in their chests near 86th Street and 14th Avenue, which is the park’s eastern corner, and includes a playground and other recreational areas.
First responders took both men to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition. Police said the 21-year-man later died from his injuries. They did not immediately release his name as they worked to notify his family.
Officials said Saturday evening that a person of interest was in custody in connection to the violence, but did not immediately identify them or specify any charges. A motive for the stabbing was still under investigation later Saturday night, according to the NYPD.
