Former President Donald Trump is visiting New York City for the first time since losing the presidential election, according to several reports.

Trump, a lifelong New Yorker who changed his official home residency to Florida in November 2019, will be visiting the Big Apple on Sunday and depart Tuesday, according to the New York Daily News. The reasons for his visit have not been disclosed.

According to WABC-TV, the NYPD will be providing extra security around Trump Tower, the president's former official residence which had its police presence scaled back after Trump left office. Trump has been staying at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida since January 20th.

His visit comes amid an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney's office examining Trump's wealth and whether his organization intentionally inflated the value of his properties in order to obtain loans, the New York Times reports. A recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling demanded Trump release his personal income taxes, which he blocked from disclosing for years. The release of Trump's taxes appears to be central to the investigation.

New York's relationship with Trump soured tremendously after he was sworn as the 45th President in 2017. His tumultuous tenure in the White House ended with a second impeachment after a group of supporters stormed Capitol Hill on January 6th, resulting in five deaths. It also resulted in New York City rescinding several contracts with the Trump Organization shortly after the insurrection. His Twitter account was also permanently removed.

Trump was impeached for having incited the riot, which happened the day Congress had certified the election of President Joe Biden.

The NYPD declined to comment on Trump’s visit and whether added security will be re-installed outside Trump Tower.
