A private garbage truck driver struck and killed a teenager just minutes away from her home in Queens late Sunday night, the NYPD said.

According to police, 19-year-old Nishath Jannath was crossing the street at 62nd Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Woodside around 11:55 p.m. when she was hit by the driver as they turned into the crosswalk.

Jannath lived on 55th Street, police said, about a 10-minute walk from the intersection where she was killed. Emergency medical workers responded to the scene and pronounced her dead, according to officials.

The NYPD said a woman was driving the truck, which officials said was operated by the company Royal Waste. The driver remained at the crash scene and was treated for minor injuries, authorities said.

Police said they made no immediate arrests. Royal Waste did not respond to a request for comment about the incident early Monday.
