A teenager was fatally shot at a basketball court in Far Rockaway, Queens on Monday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
A 14-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to the back at 430 Beach 54th St., after police received a 911 call at around 3:36 p.m., according to the police.
The teenager was pronounced dead at Cohen Children's Medical Center, the NYPD said.
There have been over a dozen teens to die of gun violence in New York City so far this year, according to police reports compiled by Gothamist.
Although New York City has notched historic lows in shootings and homicides this year, youth violence continues to rise as a share of overall violent crime, with both victims and perpetrators under 18 reaching their highest percentages since tracking began in 2018, officials have said.
The investigation into the death is ongoing and no arrests have been made, the NYPD said.
