In taxiland, everyone is apparently scamming everyone. While some hacks were duping fares, according to a new class-action lawsuit at least one taxi garage was shaking down its hacks. The scam worked like this: since the TLC says a weekly taxi lease cannot exceed $666 per week, Boulevard Taxi Leasing in Long Island City simply charged its drivers the daily rate for each day of the week (which adds up to $852 a week). The garage claims the extra fees were for taxes, but the TLC explicitly forbids garages from doing that. Oops.
