After years of talk, one of the single greatest buildings in all of Gotham is finally moving ahead with plans for a residential (or maybe hotel) conversion. Will there be a mass exodus across City Hall Park from Frank Gehry's Beekman Tower Cass Gilbert's neo-Gothic masterpiece? We know which address we'd prefer!
The top half of the 57-story landmark is now entirely empty, and Steve Witkoff and his partners in the project are hard at work getting things up to snuff as they make the final decision if they want to go rental or if they want to turn the top of the building into what could easily be one of the swankest hotels in the city (eat your heart out, Tommy Hilfiger). They expect to come to a decision in the next month-and-a-half.
But while they decide, we're just going to go back and look at these photos taken inside (and above) the building last fall and imagine what it would be like to live there—since we know there is no way that we'll ever afford to actually live (or even stay in a hotel) there.
