A Staten Island man suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease burned to death in his home Sunday afternoon when his lit cigarette ignited his oxygen tank. The NY Post has the grisly details on the thoroughly depressing demise of 51-year-old Richard Aguilar, who was consumed by flames in his recliner "with his oxygen tank and breathing mask on his left and an ashtray on his right."
Despite his debilitating disease, Aguilar remained addicted to nicotine until the end. His husband, Thomas Krisko, tells the tabloid he was taking a nap in another room when his husband lit his fatal cigarette, igniting the oxygen tank and burning him to death. "We couldn’t get him to stop smoking,” Krisko told the tabloid. “They couldn’t resuscitate him. I don’t know what to do without him."
