It's that time again! Summer's (sort of) officially here with an early shark sighting this season, this time swimming scarily close to shore at a West Hampton beach. And while there were no reports of human injuries, authorities are also investigating the remains of a (presumably adorable) seal that washed up on the beach this morning, which may be linked to the sharks.

The Cupsogue and Smith Point Beaches was closed yesterday to swimmers after a group of sharks fins were spotted (reports are varying from two to seven fins) 10 feet from the shore, with most reports placing the sharks at 15-18 feet long. It's unclear exactly what kind of sharks we're talking about here, but some onlookers are guessing threshers, which Wikipedia tells us don't pose a threat to humans. Still, after sharks (including some Great Whites!) hit Jersey, Montauk, and Fort Tilden, we'd recommend exercising some serious caution when canoodling about in the water, or else you might end up like this:
