The MTA giveth and the MTA taketh away. After giving weeknight subway closures a whirl on the 4, 5, 6, the Authority this weekend is getting ready to shut down 7 train service between Queens and Manhattan for 11 weekends in a row. On the plus side: someday folks in New Jersey might have to deal with this crap, too.
Every weekend from January 21 through April 2 (that'd be January 21-23, 28-30, February 4-6, 11-13, 18-21, 25-27, March 3-5, 10-12, 17-19, 24-26 and March 31-April 2) there will be no 7 train service between Queensboro Plaza and Times Square. Over that time there is apparently lots of infrastructure work to be done which the MTA says is "absolutely necessary." Included in that will be new platforms, windscreens and handicap-accessible boarding areas at Court Square and station improvement at Vernon Blvd-Jackson Avenue and Hunters Point.
While the 7 is gone, riders can still use the N train and a free shuttle bus that the MTA will be running to stops not being serviced. We can't hardly wait.
