With Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO residents managing to (sort of) push the loud choppers out of their sky, the Red Hook folk are now suffering the brunt of helicopter traffic—and according to the Brooklyn Paper, they don't like loud noises either! The city has allegedly allowed the air traffic to move over to the coast of Red Hook, in an effort to avoid them flying over Governors Island (you know, which is pretty much vacant).
So how many choppers are we talking here? Residents say they're noticing up to five more pass each day... so, however many that is. One man told the paper, “It disturbs our baby during nap time, and our dogs go nuts with the noise." He says the neighborhood is getting the shaft once again, as they've already got truck traffic and those cruise ships hanging around.
The city hasn't had much to say about the issue, only that they're "actively working to minimize the impact of helicopter noise on Brooklyn residents"... or at least, the wealthier Brooklyn residents in neighborhoods like DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights, where they need their zen.
