Police are searching for a prolific vandal who allegedly shattered hundreds of subway windows in recent months.
According to the NYPD, the unidentified man has broken 200 windows on 63 separate trains — primarily the 2, 3, and 7 lines — during a months-long bashing spree that began in March and continued this week.
On Wednesday, the NYPD shared surveillance photos of the alleged mask smasher, who they believe used a hammer to more efficiently break the sturdy subway glass.
Last month, a train operator posted video showing a smashed-up train stopped at Hudson Yards. It's unclear if the incident is related.
Sarah Feinberg, the interim president of the NYC Transit Authority, told the Post that the vandal had caused “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in damages.
“The senseless smashing of glass in occupied subway cars is as outrageous as it is dangerous, and perpetrators, when arrested, should face significant consequences under the law,” Feinberg said.
The MTA is currently facing its most serious financial crisis ever, including a $10 billion deficit spurred in part by the pandemic.
