Police have arrested a suspect in connection to a small bomb that exploded inside the wheel well of a car in the Bronx last week.

Richard Laugel, 36, was taken into custody today after he was reportedly found hiding in the attic of a house between Hollywood and Zulette Avenues in the Bronx. Laugel has been charged with attempted murder, arson and criminal possession of a weapon.

The Daily News reports that Laugel had snuck a small explosive device made from a pipe and two aerosol cans into the undercarriage of another man's car last Wednesday around 7 p.m. He then detonated the bomb while the man and another passenger were inside the car, near Roberts and Hahan Avenues in Pelham Bay. Officers found the car stopped in the intersection with a flat rear tire and deployed airbags. Neither person inside the car was injured in the explosion.

Police have yet to disclose information on Laugel's motive for the bombing attack, or what his relationship was to the victims. The News adds that he is currently awaiting arraignment.
