A Brooklyn man has been arrested and charged in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl inside her East Williamsburg apartment building, police said.
Eric McMichael, 27, was taken into custody late Friday and charged with two counts of rape and burglary, two counts of sexual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the NYPD.
Authorities said McMichael attacked the girl at around 5:45 p.m. Thursday inside her building near Morgan and Skillman Avenues. He fled the scene on foot.
Emergency workers took the girl to a local hospital where she was recovering in stable condition, authorities said.
Police released an image of a suspect Friday morning and asked for the public's help identifying him. McMichael was arrested later that day, though police did not immediately provide details about his capture.
The number of rapes in the 94th Precinct has declined slightly this year over last, according to police data rapes have risen 18% in that same time period, citywide.
