Hold on to your hats, New York City.
The city’s emergency management office put in place a wind advisory on Wednesday afternoon, alerting residents that 20 to 30 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph will hit the city at around 9 p.m. and continue through 8 a.m. Thursday.
Officials warned New Yorkers to use caution when walking, biking and driving.
James Connolly with the National Weather Service in New York said a cold front will be moving into the area ahead of the gusty winds, with temperatures dropping to around 40 degrees in the evening.
“ There's just a cold air mass up in Canada that's coming down south and that change in air mass obviously creates the wind,” Connolly said.
He added that conditions won’t be extreme, but echoed that residents should stay alert.
"The gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, some tree limbs could be blown down and there could be a few power outages as well, so those are the main impacts we're looking for,” Connolly said. “Also, it could be difficult driving high-profile vehicles.”
Forecasters say conditions will stay cool and breezy Thursday, with temperature highs in the low to mid 50s.
