Sorry, New Year’s partygoers: New Yorkers are in for a wet, if warm, end of the year.
According to the National Weather Service, New Year’s Eve 2024 will be a rainy affair, though temperatures will stay in the mid 40s.
“For folks that are heading out to Times Square, it’s looking a little bit rainy, but at least it’ll be on the warmer side,” said Dave Radell, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
Rain quickly passed through the area early on Monday, making way for a gradual clearing with some possible sunshine later on.
Clear skies and temperature lows in the 40s are expected on Monday night, followed by sun and highs in the low-to-mid-50s on Tuesday, Radell said.
But the chances of rain rise heading into Tuesday night, with another round of wet weather likely coming overnight into New Year’s Day on Wednesday, according to NWS.
The skies are then predicted to clear up and temperatures will run in the low 50s.
“Wednesday will be kind of our last warm day before we cool down late in the week,” said Radell, adding that New Year’s Day will be a bit windy.
