Over the weekend, Krazy Kids, a children's play center in Medford, Long Island, held a private party—for krazy adults. A bawdy time was had by all, but after parents expressed their outrage, Krazy Kids decided to close for "additional cleaning and sanitizing."
A flyer, posted on Meetup.com, read, "Jungle Gym & Pajama Party All-Night Dance Party: For Grownups Who Won't Grow Up." That means pillow fights and body painting, "The purpose of the party is to play like a kid! ...to be happy and carefree. This is just good clean wholesome fun... There will be no orgy, smut, strippers, or sexually lewd content....however...there will be tasteful nudity."
In spite of a "no photographers" warning, pictures were posted online—WCBS 2 has some of them (above)—and parents were not thrilled. The playspace said on Facebook:
The staff at Krazy Kidz would like to address the concerns regarding some recent Facebook posts which appear to show less than tasteful behavior at our facility. In order to help meet regular expenses the facility was rented to a private group for a benefit costume party. The photo in question actually shows a person in the background wearing a body stocking Eve costume.
This event was no different that an ordinary Halloween party that you would hold at your home. As always, that facility has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized with a fogging spray and we continue to pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our facility. Our carpets are shampooed regularly, the floor is vacuumed and the bathrooms are bleached daily. All tabletops and benches are sanitized every time they are used just as in any restaurant.
Please understand that our staff was not involved in this event and they look forward to continuing to serve the public. In addition, our private party facility rental policy is currently under review to prevent any such misunderstandings from occurring in the future.
However, Facebook comments include reactions like these: "That was not a body stocking, i saw the picture, there were boobs and testicles present and a party like that should never be ok at a place where kids play, disgusting. That picture of those 2 naked (very naked) was gross!" and "Anyone who has seen the pics will see there was no bodysuit. This beyond disgusting that naked people hanged [sic] out on a jungle gym that kids will be crawling there the next day."
Many upset parents admitted that, yes, many public places are disgusting, but this is one where children are playing and, honestly, will probably lick surfaces (because kids are gross). And one customer said, "I can't believe I had my daughter's Bday party on Sunday morning at 11! and that explains why you were closed at 10! which is your regular opening hour and I had to knock.. and everything was socked [sic] and wet! they said the firealarm went off the night before! now I know what kind of alarm... I want my money back!! ANGRY!!"
Krazy Kids commented further: "To further restore the public's trust we are closed today for an additional cleaning and sanitizing and will reopen on Wednesday Feb 5th." And there are many defenders, including one local who said, "Wow, I never realized Medford was such a small minded, backwater, soccer mom town before. If people are naked, they must be performing sex acts on each other"?"
One attendee of the pajama party told Patch, "I'm just blown away by the things that I am reading. People are acting like it was an orgy and it was not. It was so far from it," estimating there were about six naked people. She insisted there was no drug use or sex, "There were a couple people making out. It was G-rated." Still, COOTIES.
