The 24-year-old drug dealer whose Molly led to an Electric Zoo concertgoer's death was sentenced yesterday.
According to the Daily News, it was a "slap on the wrist:" "Patrick Morgan, 24, was sentenced to eight months of home confinement, 500 hours of community service and three years of supervised release for selling the drugs that Jeffrey Russ overdosed on at the music festival back in 2013."
Morgan had apparently sold pills to a friend of Russ's. On the first day of the concert, Russ took one of the pills, collapsed and had a seizure. He was treated by emergency medical technicians on Randall’s Island and later died at Harlem Hospital. Russ's death, as well as Olivia Rotondo's Molly-related death, and numerous other drug-related illnesses led to the concert canceling its final day.
While the prosecution was hoping for 10 months in prison, Morgan agreed to plead to guilty to conspiring to sell the drug. He said, "I have no one to blame but myself."
Russ's father John said he was upset that Morgan got off so easily, "It is like he never existed and never mattered." However, the judge said that Morgan's involvement in death was "was minimal at best."
