The Brooklyn businesses who say that periodic shut downs of the L train are hurting their business hopefully already know this, but in case you were thinking of riding the silver bullet into Brooklyn this weekend—perhaps to somebody's birthday kegger—you might want to think again. From midnight tonight through Monday morning we all get to experience the joy of the second to last planned true L Hell of 2012. Yup, among the planned service changes this weekend, there is no L train service from 8th Avenue to Broadway Junction.
But hey! It could have been worse! As MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota pointed out yesterday, 25 years ago the the MTA nearly shut down the L line altogether because it was so rarely used. But that was then. Now the line is one of the most popular in the system, having seen its ridership grow by leaps and bounds in the past quarter century.
Meanwhile, for your notes? The last scheduled weekend of L hell is March 3-5. And you can see the rest of this weekend's scheduled changes over on mta.info.
