How bad are New York drivers? Well, according to some new numbers The Daily Beast crunched, there are 33 states with worse drivers than us (congrats, North Dakota, for being #1). Don't get too cocky, however, last year a different study named us the state with The Worst drivers in all the nation. Here's the breakdown of numbers that landed us in the #34 spot this time around:
- Fatal crashes: 1,067
- Driver's licenses: 11,284,545
- Most dangerous age: 20
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs: 35 out of 50
- Failure to obey traffic signs or signals: 17 out of 50
- Careless or inattentive driving: 34 out of 50
The site also notes that 9 out of the 10 worst-performing states were also states that went to McCain in the 2008 election, for whatever it's worth. Now, how about a study on which city has the worst cab drivers, or the most accident-prone cyclists?
