Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of people lined Fifth Avenue to watch the 249th St. Patrick's Day Parade. Irish singer Emma Kate Tobia told NY1 "I feel more Irish here than I would at home. You really feel proud to be Irish in New York on St. Patrick's Day. It's an exciting, exciting place to be."

Mayor Bloomberg said, "New York City and Ireland have had a special connection and we've reaped the benefits for centuries. If you think about it, one of the smallest and poorest countries in Europe helped make New York into America's biggest and most prosperous city." He also referred to next year's shorter parade, explaining to the Post, "This city has to balance its books."

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly was the Grand Marshal, but before he got to his Grand Marshal-ing duties, he did take time out to help a pedestrian struck by a delivery man on a bicycle.
