Riders of the New Haven line on Metro North: relief is on the way. Those grimy trains that were cool when mustaches weren't ironic are being steadily replaced by these beauties, the M-8. MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan says the "top of the line" cars are "roomier, have higher-backed seats, bigger bathrooms, and outlets at every seat." Your move, Richard Branson.

These cars are also guaranteed to not rip your slacks as the hand rests have been completely redesigned. Two backlit LED displays inside and outside the cars remind you where you are after your seatmate punches you awake for drooling on him. M-8s also have two ACs instead of one, which will hopefully keep the onboard ice luges intact when the MTA finally unveils those new bar cars.

Donovan tells us that only 64 of the cars are currently in service since they debuted last year, but by September 2013, all 405 will be in action. No word on whether the older cars will be used to transport "very well-educated people." But if the M-8s make your nipples hard enough to cut the safety glass on the M-8s, check out their intro video, courtesy of the MTA.
