A body found in Yorktown Heights has been identified as missing Bronx woman Tina Adovasio. Adovasio, a mother of four, was missing since last Friday, after getting into an argument with her estranged husband, former NYPD housing cop Eddy Coello. Coello is considered a "person of interest" and refused to give a DNA sample this morning.
A resident driving an ATV found the body in the woods last night and called the police. Coello's lawyer had previously emphasized his cooperation, apparently that didn't include offering DNA. During an earlier questioning, the Daily News says that Coello "seemed to be the 'helpful husband' until about 12 hours in when detectives asked to look at his car. He refused and clammed up, sources said. He did tell detectives Adovasio scratched him before storming out of their home Friday night, sources said." A source added, "It was as if he knew what was going to happen so he told us that they had fought earlier and she had scratched him, in case we found his skin under her fingernails."
Coello's car has been impounded and a forensics team has been going over Adavasio's home. A surveillance camera near Coello's home apparently shows, at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, a man lugging a sheet or duffel bag "big enough" for a body.
Adovasio had recently filed for divorce from Coello, and there are previous police reports of domestic incidents between the two. Coello left the NYPD after domestic violence incidents with his first wife. Adovasio's cousin told the Journal News, "We knew from the beginning about this guy. He’s just an animal. He’s a lowlife. He lost his job as a cop because of his physical abuse to his first wife. He took away someone very special to us. A part of us is all dead now.”
