It is the 9th day of February and we have yet to have a day that is warmer than normal. Don't look for today to be that day either. As expected a front passed through the city over the weekend and stalled somewhere to our south. While we were stuck at 37 degrees yesterday, Washington DC hit a record of 68! Anyway, the stalled front is leading to a miserable mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet for most of this slippery, happy Monday. Look for the temperature to hold steady in the lower 20s through tomorrow morning.
The precipitation will switch over to mostly snow and sleet tonight with maybe an inch of accumulation by morning in the city and 4-6 inches further inland. High pressure will finally push the yuck away and the sun could return tomorrow. Tuesday's high will crawl above freezing but the wind chill will be stuck in the teens. Less wind chill and lots of sun is expected on Wednesday when the high will be in the lower 30s.
Yet another storm is expected to affect us beginning Wednesday night and into Thursday. The storm might drop a couple of inches of snow on Thursday but it will definitely bring much, much colder air by Friday. Highs will only be in the upper teens or lower 20s and lows in the single digits on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as the coldest air of the season arrives. Early indications are that next week won't be much warmer.
