New York City’s first baby of 2026 was born at Harlem Hospital at the stroke of midnight, according to a statement from NYC Health+Hospitals.

Parents Oumy Niang and Amadou Niang welcomed their baby girl, who is yet to be named, at exactly 12 a.m. on Thursday morning. She is the Niangs’ fifth child and weighed just over 7 pounds at birth. Oumy, the mother, said the child is in good health.

The Niangs are originally from Senegal and moved to the city in 2006. They currently live in Harlem.

In adherence to their faith traditions, Oumy Niang said the name of the baby will be announced at a celebration seven days after her birth.

“In my culture, you have to hide the name for one week,” she said.

NYC Health+Hospitals also announced that the first baby born in Queens this year was Liam Steven Bunay Marcatoma. He was born at 3:29 a.m. at the Health + Hospitals location in Elmhurst. Liam weighed nearly 9 pounds 6 ounces at birth.
