A 53-year-old man who was stabbed outside of an East Harlem subway station died Wednesday night after police found him in a train car.
A police spokesperson said the man had been selling MetroCard swipes at the West 116th and Lenox Avenue 2/3 station at about 9 p.m. prior to the incident. Sources told the Daily News the man had tried to rob a woman at the station, and CBS reports that he allegedly punched the woman in the face, then fled.
The man was reportedly chased by the woman's father, who stabbed him in the neck and upper back. He was also stabbed in his torso, police said.
According to the NYPD, the wounded man then boarded a Southbound 2 train but was taken into custody by EMS one station away at 110th and Lenox Avenue. He was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have identified the stabbing suspect as 48-year-old Julio Velaquez. Velaquez is described as a 5'6" tall Hispanic man with black hair and brown eyes, weighing 180 lbs. The NYPD released a photo of Velaquez taken during a 2013 arrest for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. The victim's identity has not yet been released.
