Police said Friday they are looking for a man who shoved a subway rider onto the tracks at a Brooklyn station Thursday night, leaving the victim injured.
The incident happened around 11:35 p.m. at the Jay Street–MetroTech station in Downtown Brooklyn after the two men got into a dispute, according to NYPD officials.
The alleged assailant then pushed the 55-year-old man onto the tracks of the northbound R train, officials said. The 55-year-old sustained injuries to his head and back.
First responders took him to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in stable condition, police said. The suspect fled the station on foot in an unknown direction.
Officials said they are still investigating whether the men knew each other.
NYPD data shows there were 29 complaints for felony assaults in transit last year in the part of the 84th Precinct that falls under Transit District 30, which includes Jay Street–MetroTech. That was the highest total for felony assault complaints in any precinct in any single transit district in the city, according to the data.
Compared to the same point last year, transit crime is up about 13% citywide through Feb. 22 this year, and up 2% in the Brooklyn North patrol zone, according to the NYPD.
This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
