Former Bernie Madoff assistant Annette Bongiorno's attempts to have her bail reduced have been successful. A judge today ruled that the $7.6 million in assets the feds had seized "dramatically" reduced the chances that she would flee.
Bongiorno had previously had trouble paying her $5 million bail which led to her heading back to jail in time for Christmas. With the new ruling she could be free again as early as this afternoon.
For what it is worth, Bongiorno, 62, worked for Madoff for roughly 40 years, making up to $623,000 a year in salary and bonuses, plus an additional $14 million she got in "profits" from "investing" about $900k in Madoff's fund scheme.
