America is turning 250 years old this year, and in the Big Apple, spectators will be able to watch the iconic Macy’s July 4th fireworks in person from spots along both the East and Hudson rivers.
Macy’s announced Friday that its annual pyrotechnic show is expanding to the lower East River in the Seaport District and the lower Hudson River in collaboration with Jersey City.
The Brooklyn Bridge will also feature prominently in the spectacle, which is marking its 50th anniversary.
“The tradition of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks creates connection through artistry, music and awe-inspiring displays that turn into lasting memories,” Macy’s chief marketing officer Sharon Otterman said in a statement. “We are proud to celebrate our 50th anniversary with a once in a generation experience filled with emotional storytelling and signature spectacle to connect millions of people nationwide.”
The United States’ 250th birthday, also known as the semiquincentennial, will bring a bevy of events — and visitors — to New York City. Previous official estimates have put the number of expected tourists coming to the city for six days around that date in the millions. The slate of festivities includes processions of tall ships and other maritime vessels in the city’s waterways, as well as an aerial display by the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels.
Macy’s fireworks show will broadcast on NBC and Peacock from 8 to 10 p.m. on July 4th. A Spanish language simulcast will air on Telemundo during the same hours.
More details on public viewing, performances and other items will be announced in the coming weeks, Macy’s said.
