Last month the NYPD braved the cold waters of the Hudson to save Chloe, a 4-year-old German Shepherd that leapt into the river from her home: a houseboat. Chloe survived the experience just fine... but sadly she wasn't so lucky this morning. The NY Post reports that Chloe, just last month dubbed the city's "luckiest dog," died in an early morning fire on the boat. It's believed a space heater is to blame, however the cause is still under investigation.

It took 60 firefighters around 2 hours to get the flames under control (which happened close to 4:30 a.m.), and the boat then sank into the river, according to the Coast Guard. Owner Mark Stoss—who had the 35-foot cabin cruiser regularly docked at Pier 59—has been taken to Bellevue Hospital for smoke inhalation.
