Police are investigating at least five incidents in which a woman has been punched in the face by a man at the Morgan Avenue L train station in East Williamsburg.

The attacks have been taking place since November. One assault occurred on January 2nd, around 9 p.m.; Manal Guennad told WABC 7 that a man starting getting to close to her in the station.

"He didn't say a word, just started punching me, like randomly beating me up," she said. "All I was thinking was, 'Scream. Someone has to hear you. Someone must be around. Like, just scream as loud as you can.'"

Police officers in the station heard her cries and Guennad said they arrived quickly, but the suspect escaped.

According to the NYPD, on November 17th, around 8 p.m., a 24-year-old woman told police that she "was approached from behind on the stairs by an unknown male who struck her with a closed fist multiple times in the face and then fled the scene." She was left with abrasions to her forehead and nose.

Three weeks later, on December 11th, around 9:15 p.m., another 24-year-old woman says someone punched her with a closed first from behind. Police say a similar unprovoked assault occurred on December 26th, when a 26-year-old woman was walking down the station's stairs around 8:50 p.m. A male suspect punched her in the face, injuring her left eye. Two days later, on December 28th just before 5 p.m., a 32-year-old woman was leaving the L train at Morgan Avenue and walking on the ramp toward the token booth when police say a man struck her in the face; she suffered a laceration and bruising on the right side of her face.

"I was assaulted yesterday while exiting my train station (Morgan Ave.) in the early evening. It was so quick that I hardly know what happened," one victim, Bianca Fortis, wrote on Instagram of the December 28th attack. She shared photographs of her bruised face, adding, "My initial shock has shifted to gratitude — gratitude that the assault wasn’t worse (for there are a million and one ways it could have been worse)," and thanked the two men who found her and called the police, as well as friends and the fact that she has health insurance.

NYPD spokesperson Detective Denise Moroney said that on December 30th a 50-year-old man, Benny Watts, was arrested for the November and December assaults. Watts was released a few days later, reportedly because only one of the four women could identify him. He was charged with one assault, and Brooklyn District Attorney's Office spokesperson Oren Yaniv explained to the Post, "He (Watts) was charged with assault in the third degree, which is not eligible for bail under the law."

Fortis wrote in a follow-up Instagram post, "People keep asking me if I can give a more specific description regarding race, age, etc. NO, I CANNOT. I WAS HIT REPEATEDLY IN THE HEAD AND WAS TOTALLY DISORIENTED. He moves too quickly for most of the victims to clearly see what he looks like. I realize my description is vague, but it’s the best I can offer. Thank you."

The NYPD confirmed the January 2nd attack; Moroney said in a statement, "We have not determined there is a link between the incidents, however, we are looking at the possibility they may be linked.  The investigation is ongoing."

Update: A 29-year-old man, Khari Covington, was arrested and charged with eight counts of assault as a hate crime and one count of robbery as a hate crime. He was apprehended soon after a video of a woman being viciously attacked at a Bushwick smoke shop was posted.

According to the Daily News, "Cops and prosecutors found the man in the video, and he allegedly confessed to several other assaults, sources said. He also made statements that he hates women, sources said."

Charges against Watts were dropped, WABC 7 reports.
