The Jets improved to 2-0 by demolishing Jacksonville 32-3. Credit the defense with this win as they recorded a safety, two sacks, four interceptions and missed a defensive touchdown by 1/2 a yard. Mark Sanchez threw two interceptions and two touchdowns. Shonn Greene rushed for only 3.1 yards per carry, but found the end zone. The Jets now head on the road for three-straight weeks, stopping in Oakland and Baltimore before heading to Foxboro for a showdown with New England.
The Mets rallied for a win against the Braves bullpen, scoring three times in the final two innings to prevail 7-5. Ruben Tejada hit a bases-clearing double in the 4th to put New York up 4-1. Atlanta rallied back, taking a 5-4 lead into the late innings. The Mets tied things in the 8th on a walk with the bases loaded and went ahead on a bloop single by Tejada. Lucas Duda hit his 10th homer of the year in the 9th to provide the final run.
The Yankees finished their road trip with a 3-0 loss to Toronto. The lack of offense was hardly a surprise as Joe Girardi created a lineup without Jeter, Teixeira and Granderson in it. Freddy Garcia was ineffective, pitching only 4.2 innings and allowing all three Toronto runs. On the heels of Bartolo Colon's clunker Saturday, the playoff rotation is one giant question mark. The one piece of good news for New York was that Boston lost, leaving them with a 4-1/2 game lead in the AL East.
