The hobbled Knicks are trying to shake off a lousy come-from-behind loss to the Indiana Pacers coming into tonight's game against the Orlando Magic. With every injury and freakout, their hold on a playoff spot seems more and more tenuous. But thankfully, their woes have been overshadowed today by the Magic's: coach Stan Van Gundy confirmed to reporters that he knows perpetually smiling star Dwight Howard asked management to get rid of him. And then he and Howard shared a very, very awkward moment together. Watch the video below!
When asked how he knew Howard wanted him gone, Van Gundy said: "I was told it was true by people in our management...So right from the top." Howard suddenly appears, putting his arm around him, completely unaware of what Van Gundy just said—and as the reporters peppered him with questions, he tries his darndest to get them to shut up through clenched smiles.
It's safe to say the Magic are in utter chaos right now. It's hard to see how a team can concentrate on the playoffs when they don't know whether their star player will push their coach out tomorrow—which suddenly reminds us of something that happened here not too long ago. On the up side, maybe this will help push Howard into coming to Brooklyn (...in two years). Or maybe Jay-Z and Mikhail Prokhorov should just be counting their lucky stars they won't have to deal with him.
